I am pleased to be able to share that this year’s PASS Summit event has gone virtual! We are excited to proceed with a virtual conference and we look forward to welcoming attendees from around the world that would not normally be able to join us at the in-person event.
Launching the PASS Virtual Summit was a massive undertaking for a not-for-profit, especially under such challenging circumstances. Thanks to the community feedback we received over the last few months, and the dedicated team at PASS HQ, we were able to make this conference a reality. Thank you to the dozens of community members that participated in focus groups and provided the insights that informed this change and the revised pricing.
We are committed to making this virtual conference a success. You can expect many of the same benefits you would receive at the in-person event – world-class content, networking opportunities, access to sponsors – with the added bonus of flexibility in tailoring the schedule for a global audience. We are excited to announce initiatives over the coming weeks, which will now be possible in this virtual format.
The community will notice that the cost of registering for the virtual conference is significantly lower than the in-person event. We wanted to keep registration costs as low as possible to make the first PASS Virtual Summit universally accessible and in line with pricing expectations set by corporate events. PASS’ costs have decreased with the transition from an on-site event, but there are still significant overheads associated with running an event of this scale – this is going to be so much more than a PASS Marathon or 24 Hours of PASS! PASS Summit, and our organization, can only succeed if you, your friends, and your colleagues attend this year’s event. PASS Summit accounts for 94% of our organization’s revenue and this pricing structure is a big shift from PASS’ primary fund raiser. We hope that by enabling our members around the world to attend at home, it will enable you to support PASS Summit, which funds resources for data professionals 365 days-a-year.
The PASS Board and HQ team have been stretched to make the transition to a virtual PASS Summit conference happen so quickly, but we aren’t done yet; we’re also continuing our work to roll out new revenue streams for our organization that will help us keep on our growth trajectory. I look forward to sharing more details on this when they are available.
