PASS Summit 2011 will kick off with the always-fun Welcome Reception, including the popular annual Quizbowl game and two speed networking sessions hosted by networking expert Don Gabor.

Karen has 20+ years of experience in project and data management on large, multi-project programs. She specializes in the practical application of data management principles. As a chronic volunteer, she’s held positions in several professional organizations in the certifications, accreditation, and ethics areas.

Karen is a former national spokesperson on women in technology (WIT) issues, focusing on encouraging girls to take more math and science in school so that they can have the same opportunities she’s had all these years. She is a frequent WIT panellist at SQLSaturdays, user group meetings, and schools.She wants you to Love Your Data.


Yanni Robel
Manager, Database Administration Team at Allrecipes.com

Yanni manages the Database Administration team at Allrecipes.com in Seattle, WA. She is a very active Senior Database Administrator as well, leveraging more than a dozen years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server products and technologies.

Yanni specializes in bridging communications between the business, the developers, the sysadmins, and the DBAs to help everyone understand what it is that they depend on. As an active member in the SQL community, previous developer, and parent, Yanni knows the importance of knowing what you don’t know and leveraging the collective knowledge of others and the community to learn and grow. Yanni is pleased to give back to peers, coworkers (past & present), and recruiters by sharing knowledge and experiences while participating in events such as PASS Summit.


Dale Clark
Vice President, Product Management for CA Technologies

Dale has extensive experience on both sides of the negotiation table. With a life-long passion for understanding what makes high-performance teams work he has observed, participated in, and led engineering initiatives in organizational settings ranging from 3-person startups to software mega-vendors. His current role as the Core Team Leader for a CA technologies’ Service Management products provides constant opportunities for collaborative negotiation as he guides the activities of a large global multi-discipline team.


Sharon Dooley

Sharon Dooley has worked with SQL Server since its first release. Her major areas of specialization are database design and performance tuning, though she also does a lot of administration. She has a consulting practice and teaches and writes courses for Learning Tree International, where she is SQL Server Curriculum Manager. Ms. Dooley is the author of SQL Server 7.0 Essential Reference (New Riders) and the lead author of Professional SQL Server 6.5 Administration (Wrox) Sharon is an active member of PASS, and has presented at numerous conferences. She was named a Microsoft MVP in 2001 and was an MVP for SQL Server until 2004. In her spare time, she enjoys being bossed around by her cats.

As a thank you for joining us here this week, we’ve reserved Gameworks - an entertainment venue featuring all the latest and greatest video games, simulators plus pool and darts – for a great evening of fun. You’ll find dozens of ways to challenge your skills, compete with your friends - new and old - and play some great games to win great prizes. From noobies to hard-core gamers and everyone in between – there’s something for everyone at this Community Appreciation Party.

Have a fun time by mingling with the crowd. Make sure you pick up your game cards when you enter the venue. We have two ways for you to win some great prizes:

  • Meet 5 new people and add their names and emails to a game card you’ll collect when you enter the venue. Place your completed card at the Redemption Counter – close to the front entrance at GameWorks. If your entry is selected, you and the 5 new friends listed below will be eligible for great prizes.
  • You’ll also receive a game card with specific questions about certain games in the venue. Place your completed card in the raffle box located either by the Front Entrance or the Bar on the Main Floor at Gameworks.
