Modern Migration Tour – That’s a Wrap!

We’d like to thank our sponsors Microsoft and Intel®, all of our organizers, volunteers, presenters, attendees, and of course, our mascot Sandy, for making the Modern Migration Tour a success!

Over four months this spring, PASS partnered up with Microsoft and Intel® to offer a series of events, designed to prepare the community for SQL Server 2008 End of Support. These events provided expert-led training that helped the PASS community migrate to a modern data platform.

PASS Members learned about the latest features from SQL Server 2019 and Intel® Optane™, and how to leverage these features to upgrade to a modern data estate. Events included 24HOP, PASS Marathon, Virtual Groups, local events, video recordings, blogs, presentation slides, and more, providing many ways for PASS members to access this educational training.

Virtual events were held for members to easily access from their home or office, with sessions including:

  • April 3-4: 24 Hours of PASS—20 Years of PASS [Watch Recordings]
  • May 9: PASS Marathon—Modernizing Your Data Platform [Watch Recordings]
  • June 26: DBA Fundamentals Virtual Group Webinar
  • July 9: DevOps Virtual Group Webinar

In addition to these online events, we also hit the road! PASS Community leaders across the globe supported this partnership by attending dedicated training, and organizing two hour and full-day in-person workshops across 36 cities (in 16 countries) around the world.

  • 20 events in Canada/USA
  • 4 events in APAC
  • 4 events in EMEA
  • 8 events in LATAM

The largest events were in Boston, Phoenix, Vancouver BC, Nepal, and Portland.

Everyone learned a lot, and with the help of our organizers and our tour guide, Sandy the Sandhill Crane, we were able to share fun migration-themed swag with attendees. Organizers reported that there were great conversations around the challenges and successes people were experiencing in their upgrades and—most importantly—attendees were able to discuss and ask questions about what they didn’t know.

If you didn’t have a chance to attend one of these events, but you’d like to learn more about migrating to a modern data platform, you can check out our on-demand recordings and our library of online resources.
